Who doesn’t love to rock a ponytail? It’s such a versatile hairstyle that can be worn in so many different ways.
You can dress it up, dress it down, and literally wear it anywhere from your couch to a wedding.
So if you have somewhere special to go or you’re just bored and looking for some hair inspo, here are some ideas to inspire your next ponytail look.
High and Sleek
To recreate this look, use a flat iron to straighten and flatten hair. Then put your hair into a high ponytail. Done!
It’s so sleek, looks so trendy, and it’s quick to do if you already have straight hair.
Be sure to use a soft ponytail holder to prevent breakage.
There are all kinds of products on the market to help you with fly-aways if you have any so you can have that sleek and slicked back look.
Now they have much more out there than the traditional products like gel, mousse, and hairspray.
You can find wax sticks and pomades that are sure to help.
When you wear a high ponytail, it looks so much more polished, trendy, and sleek if you wrap a section of your hair around the ponytail holder.
And don’t be afraid to use a large barrel curling iron or a waver for the rest of the hair. The results are always beautiful.
It’s a way to really glam up your ponytail.
Pair it with a party dress and some dramatic eye makeup for a total glam look.
Hiding the ponytail holder also makes it look much more professional and it gives the look a high fashion finish.
You can also play with the amount of hair you want to use to wrap around the base of the ponytail. It will change change up the look a little bit so you don’t get bored.
If you have ombre hair, this is a great look for you. It is especially cute if you have an uncommon color in your hair like blue or green.
It gives such a pretty effect when the bottom color is lifted up to the crown and cascades down to your shoulders as it really shows off the color change fade.
And while we’re having fun, what about if we make it 2 ponytails? This one might be controversial as people argue that 2 ponytails are for little girls, but it actually looks good on adults too.
Simply part your hair in the middle all the way from the front to the back of the head. Tie each section into a high ponytail. Flat iron optional.
This also looks super cute with curly hair, and if it is short and curly will mimic the two bun trend. It will look even cuter though because of the curls.
And while we are feeling nostalgic for childhood hairstyles, what about the side ponytail? Did you wear this as a kid?
I sure did.
I personally probably wouldn’t wear it as an adult but that’s because it just doesn’t look good with my face. For some people it works really well.
As always wrapping hair around the hair tie takes the ponytail to the next level. It looks much more dressed up this way and more suitable for the office or formal affairs.
Low and Sophisticated
Low ponytails are classic and sophisticated. There is something so soft and feminine about them and they can be styled with flat irons or curling irons to create different vibes.
These ponytails look just as cute when you finish them by wrapping them with a strand of your hair. It’s a great chance to show off highlights in your hair if you have them.
This is a quick and easy hairstyle that will get you ready for work quickly and keep you looking professional and beautiful all day.
It’s also a great solution for a bad hair day because as long as it is brushed back neatly into the hair tie, it really can’t look bad.
The fun part of this hairstyle is that you can play around with the part and it will completely change the look.
You can part it anywhere on the side from a deep side part to a semi-middle side part.
Of course you can always part it straight in the middle, and you can also use a comb to create a zig zag part for a super chic look.
And you can never go wrong with curtain bangs. These bangs make any hairstyle look cute when the hair is pulled back away from the face so they work especially well with ponytails.
Curly Ponytails
Curly hair is sooo pretty and perfect for ponytails. I always wished I had curly hair because there are so many cute things you can do with it.
I used to get perms back in the day just so I could get a curly ponytail like this. If you’re lucky enough to have curly hair, putting it up in a high ponytail makes it look bouncy and beautiful.
If you don’t have curly hair, I wouldn’t recommend getting a perm to get these curls because when it grows out it will be half straight and half curly.
Trust me, it looks ridiculous. Instead try a curling iron with a tiny barrel to get these bouncy spiral curls. But be pre-warned, the smaller the barrel, the longer it will take to curl all of your hair.
It could wind up to be too tedious of a job depending how thick your hair is.
And some curls you just have to be lucky enough to be born with because no curling iron or perm can imitate their beauty.
If that’s you, gathering your curls on top of your head and tying them up will always be a beautiful hairstyle for you.
You can let some tendrils fall loose to frame your face for a gorgeous finished look.
