With the way we style our hair, sometimes it’s hard not to damage it. If you want healthy, beautiful hair, there are ways you can achieve that.
Breakage and frizz is frustrating, but we still want to treat it with chemicals and heat. Well…I don’t know about you, but I do.
The good news is that it is possible to minimize that damage and achieve the healthy beautiful hair you’re looking for.
1. Healthy beautiful hair needs heat protectant before blow drying.
There are many products out there that you can put in your hair to protect it from the heat. If you are blow-out queen, use a protectant spray first.
I have tried some of these and in my experience some of them made it take longer to dry while some made my hair dry faster.
Of course you want to choose the ones that speed up the blow drying time so your hair isn’t under the heat for too long.
It’s definitely worth finding one you like. I see a significant difference in my hair when I use it as opposed to when I don’t. It looks much silkier when I do.
2. Wash your hair less.
Too much hair washing can dry it out.
I know it’s hard for some, but you should try not to wash it every day.
Letting the natural oils stay in your hair will nourish your strands.
As we age, our hair becomes more dry and too much dryness can make the hair brittle and prone to breakage.
Try to put as much time as you can handle in between washes.
Luckily now they have dry shampoo so we don’t have to get it wet and dry it all the time. I’ve also seen much less damage since I’ve started using this.
Washing and drying my hair every day was leaving my hair fried, so this is a godsend.
3. Use leave-in conditioners.
Replenish your hair with leave-in conditioners that will leave it feeling soft and supple.
This will moisturize your hair and make it look silkier and shinier.
Use the ones that specifically cater to your hair type, whether it is curly or straight.
You should see more bounce in your healthy beautiful hair after the treatment.
4. Do not tie hair or brush when wet.
If you brush your hair when it’s wet, there is a much higher chance of breaking the hair.
Your hair is actually much weaker when it is in this state so it is easily damaged.
Don’t put your hair up in any clips or ties while it’s wet either for the same reason.
Wait until it is dry to brush it. If you can’t, it may be worth getting a wet-dry brush so you don’t have to wait.
5. Only use hair ties that do not break hair and don’t put it too tight.
Use scrunchies over elastic bands when it comes to decreasing hair breakage. I don’t know about you but my hair breaks so easily, and breakage does not make healthy beautiful hair.
If you don’t like scrunchies, that’s ok. I don’t either.
They have fabric ponytail holders that are much more gentle than the rough elastic ones.
Try to switch up the spot you wear your ponytail as well because if it is always in the same spot your hair will be much more prone to break.

6. Pay attention to ingredients.
For the longest time, most of us never realized that there were chemicals in our shampoos and conditioners that can cause harm to us, not to mention ruin our quest for healthy beautiful hair.
In so many cases these ingredients are not just bad for the health of our hair, but our bodies as well.
Many have been found to be endocrine disruptors, giving people hormonal issues.
Some are cancer causing, and some make the hair look pretty for the moment but are actually causing damage.
You can find plant-based shampoos made with essential oils that will not strip your hair of its natural oils.
7. Sleep on satin sheets to avoid breakage.
It sounds funny but your pillowcase could actually be causing breakage as well.
As you sleep, your head moves and causes friction between your hair and the pillow.
Too much of this can add to breakage problems.
Sleeping on satin pillowcases won’t give you this problem because they are too soft to cause enough friction to break.
They are a necessary step to getting healthy beautiful hair.
If you implement these hair care tips, you should see an improvement in the health of your hair and have the healthy beautiful hair you desire.
Just remember to be mindful about the products you’re using to make sure they are actually helping your hair rather than harming it.
